Christmas Club Accounts: Funds will automatically be disbursed into your Regular Savings Account the first week in November; however, you may withdraw funds from your Christmas Club Account in October without being charged an early withdrawal fee

Same Day ACH rule change effective September 15, 2021

Effective September 15, 2017 you may see a change in the way automatic debits clear your account, due to the second phase of the Same Day ACH rule enacted by the National Automated Clearing House (NACHA). NACHA administers operating rules for Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments processed by financial institutions, including Mountain States Credit Union (MSCU). The first phase of this rule was effective September 23, 2016 and concerned ACH credits.  This second phase of the Same Day ACH rule allows for same day processing of ACH debits.  ACH debits include electronic payments, automatic drafts, paper check conversions, or any electronic withdrawal from your account utilizing MSCU's routing and transit number.  Once this rule is in effect, any ACH debit can clear on the same day it is initiated.  For example, if you write a check at a retailer and it is converted into electronic payment, it can clear the same day it is written.  

Please take this rule into consideration when you have ACH debits deducted from your account.  MSCU has no control over when the ACH files are received and you may need to make changes to ensure funds are available in your account to cover your automatic debits.

If you have automatic drafts, such as your water bill, power bill, etc., this would be a good time to review your agreement with the service provider and verify the effective date of your payment, as it will be deducted from your account on that day.

AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS:  In accordance with the Expedited Funds Availability Act, the first $200.00 of your check deposit will be available on the first business day after the day of your deposit.  In some cases, we will not make all of the funds that you deposit by check available to you on the same business day we receive your deposit.  If we are not going to make all of the funds from your deposit available on the same business day, we will notify you at the time you make your deposit. We will also tell you when the funds will be available. If your deposit is not made directly to one of our employees or if we decide to take this action after you have left the premises, we will contact you by the next business day after we receive your deposit. If you will need the funds from a deposit right away, you should ask us when the funds will be available.

Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions has notified credit unions across the state that a group of scammers out of New York have been targeting individual members of Tennessee Credit Unions.  The scammers are sending text messages asking for members to contact them at a phone number listed within the body of the text.  Please do not give out your information or respond to these messages.

This was not a data breach of information, but instead, a blanket scam.   As of now, the scammers have only referenced certain credit unions on the subject lines.

We have been notified that Wendy's restuarants across the country have been compromised including locations in Kingsport and other locations in Tennessee and Virginia.  The estimated exposure window runs from October 2015 – June 2016.  If you made a purchase at a Wendy's during that time period, please visit this website Compromised Locations to see if the location you visited had been compromised.  If you used your debit card at one of these locations during this time frame, we recommend that you notify us and we will issue you a new debit card free of charge to help protect you as a valued member of our credit union.
